“Being alone is beautiful, but you need someone you can tell about it…”
Ten couples and ten scenes – two actors play out a story about wishes, sex, and longing for true love. La Ronde is a place where primal instincts and sexuality clash with culture and society norms, and between these antipodes eroticism begins.
The performance is based on Artur Schnitzler’s play La Ronde which stirred up a scandal in Vienna’s high society at the beginning of the 20th century – the work was banned, and its author got accused of immorality and obscenity. The location of the play has been changed to modern Riga, while maintaining the author’s surgical precision to reveal the theatricality and complex games that people play with each other, only to fulfil their own wishes. Nowadays, when sexuality has become an integral part of each entertainment industry product, the question at the forefront is no longer “who with whom”, but rather – “is true intimacy even possible”?
