Description

Show description

The average individual utters approximately 123 205 750 words throughout their lifetime. But what happens when a rule is imposed that restricts the number of words one can speak? Oliver and Bernadette are about to discover the answer. Sam Stainer's play envisions a world where we are compelled to communicate with fewer words. It explores the essence of what we say and how we say it; the profound message found in silence; and unexpected themes such as deceased cats, activism, eye contact and, of course, lemons.

The play premiered at the Warwick Arts Centre in 2015, where it received three jury prizes at the National Student Drama Festival. Since then, it has been performed at the Latitude Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Camden People's Theatre in London. This production marks the debut work of Jurģis Lūsis at the Ģertrūdes ielas teātris - a thoughtful exploration of his generation, one's relationship with oneself, and the complexities of contemporary life.
